It is with considerable personal regret that I have to announce the cancellation of the 2013 Liverpool Marathon.
The event was scheduled for Sunday, 13th October but further to a meeting with Liverpool City Council on Wednesday, 6th February btr Liverpool Limited (formerly Run Liverpool) has been asked to once again reconsider the course structure in order to alleviate the impact on Liverpool waterfront roads and unfortunately it has not been possible to agree an alternative. There was no alternative. It was suggested the event ran from Liverpool to Wirral and whilst that may seem quite straightforward it is far from it. I have taken the decision that this is not in the long term interests of the race and consequently feel I have no alternative than to cancel.
It is hoped that an alternative Wirral based Half Marathon / 10K event can be arranged for this date and a further statement will be made as and when details are confirmed.
Anyone who has entered the marathon since entries opened on 1st February will have their entry fee repaid.
A decision on the Wirral 10K will be made shortly but entries will remain open for this race.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported our efforts in bringing the marathon back to Merseyside over the last four years and would reiterate my personal disappointment at not being able to continue developing the event as we anticipated cannot be measured.
So very disappointing after so much effort over the last four years!!
