They are dedicated, persistent, determined – and most will surprise themselves as to just how far they can push on. With 52 miles ahead of them each and every Tour Of Merseyside entrant will be nervous, exited and probably a bit apprehensive.
Taking on 52 miles in a competitive environment brings a completely different set of challenges than running just a single race – even the marathon. This isn’t necessarily about how fast you can run. It’s more about how you can cope with a different running challenge over a seven day period and those challenges just keep coming. There’s nowhere to hide and the intrepid team will have to take each and every mile in their step and as it comes.
A big part of this event is the mental challenge as much as the physical demand and that’s where your support and encouragement will come in. If you are not taking part in the Tour Of Merseyside then we know that those who are would just love your support at every race. So if you can, come along to one or more of the six legs and cheer those “tourists’ on, especially in the second part of the week. When they are looking for inspiration your can give it to them.
The six races are as follows…
Race 1 Southport Half Marathon. Sunday, 7th July. 8.30am.
Race 2 Thurstaston Multi Terrain, Wirral. Monday, 8th July. 7.00pm.
Race 3 Sustrans Cycle Trail 10. Walton Hall Avenue / Park. Tuesday, 9th July. 7.00pm.
NO RACE WEDNESDAY 10th JULY.
Race 4 Hale Village 5 Mile. Thursday, 11th July. 7.00pm.
Race 5 Stadt Moers Park Cross Country (Huyton), Friday, 12th July. 7.00pm.
Race 6 Wirral Coastal Run, New Brighton. Saturday, 13th July 10.00am.
After the final race there will be a Post Race Party and Presentation at the Floral Pavilion where the events of the week – including no doubt some desperate interviews – will be shown on film.
