RUN FOR THE 96 2020 – SATURDAY 16 MAY 2020

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic and the added complexity of the extended Premier League fixtures which are yet to be arranged, we are reluctant to announce that that this year’s Run For The 96 5K WILL NOT take place in Stanley Park on Saturday 16 May 2020.

Instead, we are inviting participants to complete their own virtual 5K run on the scheduled event day of Saturday 16 May 2020.

PLEASE NOTE: The virtual run option will only be possible if permitted under current guidelines from the Government, Public Health England and World Health Organisation at that time.

We are extremely keen that this year’s Run For The 96 5K still goes ahead in some form. But these are unprecedented times and we are living in extraordinary circumstances.

Entrants will be sent their running number and medal in advance of the scheduled event date. Please wear your own choice of club colours on your run. Take a selfie from your run and include your race number and medal on the picture – it will be included in an online virtual gallery. Please send images to

We would encourage participants to complete the fun run on the original event date of Saturday 16 May 2020, however this is flexible to fit in with individual personal circumstances so taking part any time over that specific weekend from Friday 15 May 2020 to Sunday 17 May 2020 is also welcomed.

We are still working out the final arrangements so please do bear with us.

This year’s event would be the sixth annual Run For The 96 event.

Run For The 96 was first staged in 2015 as a positive community legacy event to celebrate the lives of the 96 Liverpool fans who died in the Hillsborough tragedy on 15 April 1989. The event also remembers the families of The 96 and the survivors, who have tirelessly fought for justice with the utmost dignity.

Many people across Liverpool, the UK and more widely across the world, have supported Run For The 96 both in person and virtually – and behalf of everyone involved we thank you and are eternally grateful.

This year’s official beneficiaries are the LFC Foundation; Jamie Carragher’s 23 Foundation; Everton in the Community; and Stanley Park Liverpool CIC. Together, they support the vision of creating a legacy event to honour The 96 while ensuring local communities benefit.

Participants are encouraged to fundraise or make a one-off donation. All monies raised by participants or donated by third parties will be split equally between the four named beneficiaries – this year’s official fundraising page can be found at

Run For The 96 has the support of the Hillsborough Family Support Group (HFSG).

We are all having to operate in very difficult times and as far as race events are concerned they are not the most important things to worry about.

It's leisure pursuit....
