BTR LIVERPOOL LAUNCHES BRAND NEW VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT DRIVE
BTR Liverpool is launching a recruitment drive to encourage people to come forward to get involved on event day.
Volunteer roles are the backbone of any race, so BTR Liverpool are casting their net far and wide to recruit a bank of ‘Eventeers’.
BTR Liverpool is the leading organisation for creating, managing, and delivering headline running events across Liverpool City Region – including the festive spectacular fun run Liverpool Santa Dash.
The annual calendar of competitive races and fun runs take place between March and December.
Volunteers are currently being recruited for the next three BTR Liverpool events – Wirral 10K on Sunday 11 October, Liverpool Santa Dash on Sunday 6 December, and Liverpool Half Marathon on Sunday 14 March 2027.
Event day roles include helping at the baggage store or race office, route marshals, drink stations, presenting medals, and handing out goody bags.
Organisers BTR Liverpool say that every volunteer role is instrumental in the smooth running of each event throughout the year.
Volunteers come from all walks of life. Some are usually runners who want to see the event from a whole new perspective and “want to give something back”, as well as groups from running clubs handing out refreshments at water stations along the route.
Charity teams also attend on event day usually as a motivating cheer station to inspire and spur on runners, as well as corporate organisations who want to support a local event.
Rita Jenkins, who lives in Crosby, was a keen runner but had to retire from racing due to injury a few years ago. For her, volunteering is the next best thing.
Rita helps in any way she can – she has even go-karted dressed as Santa to help promote the Liverpool Santa Dash. Her favourite part of volunteering is presenting runners with their finisher medals.
Rita explained: “I cannot race any more due to injury, but I still want to be involved on race day and not just as a spectator. It makes me happy to encourage runners and see their happiness when crossing the finish line, congratulating them and presenting them with their well-earned medal. I love being there, it’s so rewarding.
“I would really encourage others to volunteer. It’s a great experience and you make lots of friends. You get to know the runners and your fellow volunteers, and it’s always nice to see them at other events. It’s really satisfying, especially when the runners really appreciate you giving up your time.”
There are now additional benefits to anyone volunteering at a BTR event.
By helping at an event, volunteers can claim a free entry into a BTR event. They will also receive a goody bag on race day, and access to all runner discounts.
Eventeers have the chance to win prizes from event sponsors including Applied Nutrition, Erdinger, Shokz headphones, Up & Running, as well as vouchers for restaurants and entertainment.
Groups of 10 or more volunteers at an event will also benefit – BTR Liverpool will make a donation of £100 to your club, organisation, or charity of your choice.

BTR Founder Alan Rothwell said: “Running is a real community and volunteers are the backbone of every BTR Liverpool event. We’re so grateful when people give up their time, they get fully involved and we always want them to feel valued. We’re excited to announce this new ‘Eventeer’ recruitment drive with added benefits.
“We are very fortunate to welcome some volunteers regularly, they get to know the runners and this gives a real personal touch on race day. Runners unable to take part or are injured also help. Others simply want to be part of the day. They want to give something back and make race day a very positive experience.
“The next three events are all completely different – a short fast race, an iconic festive family fun run, and a large-scale competitive race. Each event attracts a completely different group of runners. If you’ve never been to a BTR event, join us a volunteer on a race day and experience it for yourself.”
