Run For The 97 5K
THE 10th 97/5K AND ANOTHER BRILLIANT DAY!
Well from the delivery team point of view it was spot on in Stanley Park as 1,300 runners came together to remember the 97.
The setting was perfect as we all looked to the skies at the light grey cloud early doors before the sun came out and warmed everyone up!
Sat in the shadow of the ginormous Anfield Road stand the day built very quickly as the massed ranks of reds and blues started to land from about 8.00am.
The start and finish area was set up and ready, the concessions were preparing their teas and coffees and the atmosphere was building well.
Our hosts Claire Simmonsen (from In Demand) and Greame White (PA announcer across the road at Goodison Park) were in full flow as runners collected their t shirts and with everyone emblazoned in red and proudly sporting their specially designed YNWA t shirts everyone gathered on the start line ready for the off.
There was great support from LFC with some of their past legends attending - Chris Kirkland, Sammy Lee, Alan Kennedy, David Fairclough and of course Jamie Carragher who actually ran the 5K.
The 97/5K is the epitome of a 'fun run' with no pressure, no racing, just undiluted enjoyment.
The SuperKloppBanana was a popular attraction on the day with most people keen to have their photos taken with Jurgen Klopp as you will never have seen him before!
With all ages and all abilities taking part the banter between the reds and the blues was evident all day long. The final finisher on the day was 94 year old Dennis Adelsberg who was accompanied around the course by 'Speedo Mick' the famous fund arising Evertonian!
The Rock Choir serenaded everyone as they passed the eternal flame at Anfield before returning back into Stanley Park for the final 1K.
As most of the runners made their way back to finish line, the kids in the 97/1 Mile run were struggling to contain their excitement. The kids go after once the 5K contingent has finished and they gave Dennis Adelsberg and Speedo Mick a noise reception as they crossed the finish line.
As well as the 1,300 on the day the event was complimented by around 200 'virtual' runners who were supporting the event from locations across the UK and destinations around the globe.
Phenomenal support as always.

It's always been a special day and next year will be no different so thank you to everyone that took part either in Stanley Park, across the UK or from elsewhere in the world.
If you would like to join in the fun then we'll be doing it all again on SATURDAY 24th MAY 2025.

ALWAYS REMEMBER.
